AI agents (Skill & MCP)

xPort ships first-class integration for AI coding agents. Two pieces work together:

  • Agent skill — teaches the agent when and how to share things with you (plain-language instructions, works in any agent that supports skills)
  • MCP server (xport-mcp) — four structured tools the agent can call: share_port, share_file, list_shares, stop_share

Typical results: “show me the site on my phone” → the agent starts xport 3000 --qr and you scan the terminal QR code. “send me the screenshot folder” → a browsable link. “what am I still sharing?” → xport list.

The CLI installer installs everything — binary, MCP server and, when a supported agent is present, the skill. It detects Claude Code, Kimi Code and Codex (CLI on PATH or existing config directory), asks before installing, and places the skill in the matching skill directory:

Terminal window
curl -fsSL https://releases.xport.dev/install.sh | sh

For example ~/.claude/skills/xport/SKILL.md for Claude Code. Existing modified skills are left untouched. Flags: --no-skills skips the skill entirely, -y/--yes accepts without prompting. Without a detected agent the skill is skipped with a note.

Skill only, without touching the CLI — the raw file is served from the release bucket, copy it into your agent’s skill directory yourself:

Terminal window
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/xport
curl -fsSL https://releases.xport.dev/skills/xport/SKILL.md \
-o ~/.claude/skills/xport/SKILL.md

If your agent does not pick up xport-mcp automatically, register it (stdio):

{ "mcpServers": { "xport": { "command": "xport-mcp" } } }
  • Shares run in the background and stay alive until stopped or expired (default up to 24 h, configurable per share with --expires).
  • URLs are public to anyone with the link — use --password for sensitive content.
  • The agent verifies the share with a test request before handing you the URL, and stops shares when you’re done.
  • Plugin packaging for one-click install across agent ecosystems
  • Agent-visible share list synced with your account (after xport login)
